NameUSA is an independent reference site documenting name procedures in the United States — business name availability and reservations, and legal name changes — one state at a time.

Editorial rules

• Official sources only. Every factual claim traces to a state statute, administrative rule, or the state filing office's own published guidance, linked at the bottom of the page with the date we last checked it.
• No invented numbers. Where a fee or figure could change and we can't verify the current value, we link the official schedule instead of printing a number that might be stale.
• Depth over coverage. States publish here when their guide is finished and verified — not as fifty thin placeholders.
• Information, not advice. These pages describe public procedures. They are not legal advice, and no page here substitutes for a licensed attorney in your state.

Corrections

If a state has changed a form, fee, or rule and a page here hasn't caught up, we want to know. A correction note with the change and the official source will get a page fixed fastest.
